Is an Adjustable Base Worth It?

What an adjustable base does

An adjustable base replaces your box spring or frame and lets you raise the head and foot of the bed with a remote. The bases we carry also include a built-in massage function, LED lights underneath the bed and phone charging ports on both sides.

Who tends to love one

  • People who read or watch TV in bed. Raising the head gives you real back support instead of a stack of pillows.
  • Anyone on their feet all day. Lifting your feet after a long shift is one of the most popular features.
  • Snorers and their partners. Sleeping with your head slightly raised may help with snoring for some people.
  • Night-time bathroom trips. The soft under-bed lighting helps you find your way without switching on the room lights.

If you have a health condition you're hoping an adjustable base will help with, it's worth checking with your doctor too. We can show you how it feels, but we're not medical experts.

What to check before you buy

  • Your mattress has to bend. Not every mattress works on an adjustable base. We'll show you which of our plush, medium and firm models pair well with one.
  • Size. If you and your partner want to adjust your sides separately, ask about a split king.
  • Setup. Bases are heavy. Our delivery with setup option means we put it together and get it ready to use.

So, is it worth it?

If you spend time awake in bed, or you've ever propped yourself up with three pillows, most people find it's a real upgrade. If you go to bed, sleep and get up, a regular base may be all you need. The quickest way to know is to try one: we keep adjustable bases on our showroom floor, and you can test the lift and massage with the mattress you're considering.
